The Box

PROJECT BACKGROUND

2024

What could be better than spending your afternoon to evening swimming, lounging with friends, mocktails (or maybe a cold beer) in hand, and the city skyline as your backdrop?

The Box is an F&B project designed to activate a previously unused space at a certain Hotel in Jakarta Barat. Strategically positioned between the hotel’s main restaurant and its pool deck, this pool bar serves a key purpose: to bridge the gap—both physically and socially—between dining and leisure, encouraging guests to eat, drink, and connect in one fluid experience.

The design solution? A literal box. We repurposed a 12x4 meter shipping container, dismantled it into 12 modular parts, and reassembled it on-site at the hotel's “L” floor—essentially its 5th level. The result is a bold and functional structure that sits comfortably within the urban hotel landscape.

In keeping with the project's industrial character, we used perforated steel panels finished to mimic corten steel—achieving a raw yet refined aesthetic that resonates with the surrounding architecture and the casual vibrancy of poolside culture.

The Box isn’t just a bar; it’s a connector, a vibe, and a reimagining of space through creative reuse and design-forward thinking.
